Fury of Fire

Review:

By Coreene Callahan Fury of Fire (Dragonfury Series #1) - Coreene Callahan

I liked this. Hope the bromance gets more page time in the next installments.

Paranormal Romance with dragons, definitely has similarities to BDB.

House of Leaves

Review:

House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski

This sort of reminds of what my writing journal looks like. I start a story, then another, then continue, then add a box to add something witty I thought of.

At first glance this looks like a jumbled mess written by someone off their meds, but it's good. It takes a lot of concentration. Though, no matter how focused you were when you read it, I am sure you will find something new if you ever picked it back up for round two. Very consuming, a heavy read.

Highly recommended,

Copy for honest review

Reblogged from: Michelle's corner

Well, for whomever might be listening, I can give a couple of people a copy of the audio book to, "Check Mate," in exchange for an honest review that I can use for the publisher's web site... and here... or wherever, really. I've got no clue as to whether it will make its way to Audible or somewhere.

If you've been following me for a while on here, I'd like to think that I've demonstrated that I appreciate constructive criticism (this IS my first audio book after all, there are going to be loads of problems that weren't caught) I'm not one of those authors who goes all daggers over bad reviews! - and I'm not sure how I put an audio book on here anyway... at least, not one that hasn't got an ISBN. Hmm... that's another issue to look into.

There's a reason for not getting het up over poor reviews... there's no point. If I've done a bad job, then I should hang my head; while deliberately bad reviews show themselves up, so there's no need for me to go all Thor's hammer :-D

There is one solid advantage to audio books, however... no one can pull me up on my spelling !!!

Storm's Heart by Thea Harrison

Review:

Storm's Heart - Thea Harrison

NOT AGAIN. I stinking did it again. I need to make it a rule that I at least rate every book read. This a I made to 60% before I realized I had done it again... unknown re-read.

This is the second book in the Elder Races series. We have Tiago and Niniane (aka Tricks). I like em both! Niniene has just inheritated the dark fae throne after years of keeping her identity hidden. Tiago had the hots for her in the first book, but didnt admit it to himself until he went to her rescue after someone made an attempt on her life. Sparks fly, then stupidity and denial raises its head and love is ignored for the good of a race, then amends are made, happily ever after!

I like the writing, I like the story. On to book three.

Hot and Badgered (The Honey Badgers) - Shelly Laurenston

And it comes out March 27, 2018. It looks like it is a spin-off to her Pride series, one of my favorite series. So excited. Want it now!

City of Miracles

Review:

City of Miracles - Robert Jackson Bennett

This has been a great trilogy. The world building is some of the best I have ever read, but the characters are what make this series truly amazing. Each book takes us a few years further into the future than the previous, and stars a different protagonist.

In this the author took me by surprise from the very beginning of this book and really hit my emotions. I expected it from the book blurb, but I was hoping it was some sort of wonky slide of hand where the author makes you believe something was going to happen, but then something changes.

This one is as good as the previous books, but in a different way. It is an amazing closing to what will always be one of my favorite fantasy series ever read.

Robert Jackson Bennett is a two-time award winner of the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Novel, an Edgar Award winner for Best Paperback Original, and is also the 2010 recipient of the Sydney J Bounds Award for Best Newcomer, and a Philip K Dick Award Citation of Excellence. His sixth novel, City of Blades, is in stores now.

He lives in Austin with his wife and son. He can be found on Twitter at @robertjbennett.

Three Dark Crowns ( a review i thought i wrote a while back)

Review:

Three Dark Crowns - Kendare Blake

I read this a while ago, I thought I had reviewed it. I even remember writing the review. I had this as an arc, maybe it was when booklikes was not being user friendly.

This is young adult fantasy. It has some pretty dark themes. You have three sisters, triplets, each a potential queen. In order to determine which will rule there is a battle of skills. Each sister has a gift: elemantal, poisoner, naturalist. The girls are raised separate from each other and are strictly trained at their skill. Some sisters are excelling, others not so much.

This is told from tyre different POVs, it can get a bit confusing at times. This does start a bit slow and the first half is tedious at times. You basically get three indroductions, one for each sister. The second half gets much better. We a have a love triangle of sorts, but this not a sappy one by any means. In the end there is a big twist revealed, I had a suspicion as to it happening a few chapters in, but it took me by surprise regardless.

I found myself rooting for the underdog and feel that by the end of the book she stands a decent chance. I will continue this series, mostly because I want to see if the author will give us a Happily ever after, or let this finish darkly. The writing is average at first but it does get better.
