Had a blast!

we went to the drive in movie theater. We saw Finding Dory and Through the Looking Glass. Both good movies, but I fell asleep for the last bit of TTLG. Not the movies fault, just exhaustion. All in all it was fun. Claustrophobia kicked in on the way home and I almost jumped out a moving car, it's a tight fit with eight people in a six seater sedan.

Does anyone else?

The lady at the library looked at me like I was crazy when I had both my county public librsry card number and my State of Ohio Library card number memorized. Does anyone else have theirs memorized? I think I know these numbers because I type them into overdrive very frequently.

I somehow fe into a bucket of shit, but came out smelling like a rose. I ended up with 62 hours last week when I punched out on Saturaday. I immediately worked forty hours over the next three days, Sun., Mon., Tues. I have been off work ever since. I return on Friday night, then work Saturday and Sunday. Then I start my new schedule, plus some of my current schedule. As shitty as this all sounds, two weeks from now my vacation time I put in for a while ago was denied, until my new schedule popped into the equation. Now I am actually going to get to use some of my vacation days rather than just losing my hours at the end of the year. A couple of years ago the company adopted the use it or lose it. I haven't been able to use more than 30 hours of my 120hours vacation I years...years. Wasn't a big deal when they cut me a check for it right before Christmas, but now that I just get a "Thank you for your dedication to our clients. We are sorry to inform you that this year you were unable.... Blah, blah, blah."

I got a shitty schedule ahead of me, but the light is not a train this time. I am starting to train my replacement, as soon as that person is ready to be sufficient, it is bye bye shitty night shift for me.

Review:

About a Vampire: An Argeneau Novel (Argeneau Vampire) - Lynsay Sands

You would think that as much as I like paranormal romance, and vampires, that I would like this series. It is well rated by other readers and has a lot of die hard fans, but I just don't care for it. The whole sexual overload that makes you pass out after mate sex is just overkill for me. The romance is decently written. The bagged blood, human blood for emergencies is common, and other series I read, and like, use the idea, but I don't like it in this series. This too me seems to contemporary with a "throw in some vampires" for sales. Not enough dark, sexy, or paranormal here, AND IT SHOULD BE. VAMPIRES, DUH! Feels too Nora Roberts-ish.

I was really hoping I would like this one due to the massive amounts of books in this series. Nope, not for me.

Review:

The Queen's Wings: The Emerging Queens (Entangled Edge) - J.L. Langley

I ended up liking this a lot more than I thought I would.  I would have given it four stars if I didn't feel that the ending seemed to drag on just a tad bit too long, it wasn't annoyingly long, I just think it could have been better if there weren't a few small filler parts.

This author has a sense of humor.  The writing isn't perfect, but woth the humor it almost seems to be on purposeThe character's were likeable, flawed, and easy to relate too, not the be being a dragon part (which would be awesome if I could relate to that).  I especially love the little detail where Carolyn, the female lead, can't seem to not misplace her purse, and she is also a book hoarder.

This also got me thinking a bit. What would it be like to have someone else also living in your thoughts?  A soul with no body slips into Carolyn's mind in order to keep out of the dragon version of heaven.  At time this soul makes an ass out of Carolyn by taking control of her speech. Most the time she uses this to flirt.

Be aware that this is intended for adults. It contains vulgar language and explicit sex.

This is the first in a series, I will definitely be continuing.  Hopefully my library has an ecopy of book two.  If not I may have to put it on hold.

Reading progress update: I've read 90%.

The Queen's Wings: The Emerging Queens (Entangled Edge) - J.L. Langley

With very few dragon ladies left I get that they need to breed, but what some characters did to one of them is awful! I feel sad. I want revenge. I know that it is just a story, but with all the revenge I want at the moment concerning my recent experiences, I want to read about this book revenge in blood. Her wings, really?

Review:

Harmony - Carolyn Parkhurst

Release date: August 2, 2016

Synopsis:

How far will a mother go to save her family? The Hammond family is living in DC, where everything seems to be going just fine, until it becomes clear that the oldest daughter, Tilly, is developing abnormally--a mix of off-the-charts genius and social incompetence. Once Tilly--whose condition is deemed undiagnosable--is kicked out of the last school in the area, her mother Alexandra is out of ideas. The family turns to Camp Harmony and the wisdom of child behavior guru Scott Bean for a solution. But what they discover in the woods of New Hampshire will push them to the very limit. Told from the alternating perspectives of both Alexandra and her younger daughter Iris (the book's Nick Carraway), this is a unputdownable story about the strength of love, the bonds of family, and how you survive the unthinkable.

My Thoughts:

This the story of a families journey living with a daughter who is not typical, "on the spectrum."

The author does a good job at conveying and demonstrating that each and every individual labelled as "on the spectrum" is different. What works for one individual may not work for another.

I love how the family grew, and how this was similar in ways to what the parents of the individuals I work for have told me of their own journeys.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

The Queen's Wings: The Emerging Queens (Entangled Edge) - J.L. Langley

I usually don't read dragon shifter romance. I like this though, too early to be sure at 5%, but I think I will. The main shifter is trying to get someone to actually believe that she is seriously about to turn from human to dragon, but no one will, SHE JUST PUKED ACID VOMIT on an assailant, and had smoke swirl out her mouth. Fucking awesome superpower if you ask me! This author has made me giggle twice already! Thanks to my librarian for the recommendation!!

Oh! And the librarian said I should apply for the ten hour a week part time labraian position. I have experience from working at one in high school! I love books, but they may have to throw me out when my shift is over, if I get the position that is.

American Witches: A Broomstick Tour through Four Centuries - Susan Fair

This is a rather disturbing, but fun read. The author has a decent sense of humor.

Original post: jessicafox.booklikes.com/post/1424142/reading-progress-update-i-ve-read-20

The last couple of days heave been hell. I have went three days having to pay for my mess because my insurance hit me with a preauth way sooner then they should have. Without insurance this prescription costs $125 a week. I broke down and paid cash for one days dose yesterday, it's hard to go without considering it is the withdraw film. Now, my insurance has approved an alternate brand, which is fine, but the doctors office called in wrong. Now have tomhunt down the nurse from the office, she is a friend of mine, and have her fix this because the office has closed for the day. Ugh...

on on top of all this my internet has been not good. This morning I woke up using one provider, got pissed at the bitchy associate over the phone, called another company... It's already hooked up because they had a big wiring job next door that they couldn't complete due to inection process. I am now paying $35 instead of $60 for better service. spunds like a good thing, but dealing with all that while sick, not good.

A good note:

it's national no underwear day, yay! I am so putting on a dress and not sitting like a lady in public. Random flashing may make me feel better.

A Fine Imitation by Amber Brock

Review:

A Fine Imitation: A Novel - Amber Brock

This is not my normal type of read. This is set in the twenties and follows a women who is unhappy with her life. She is park of the upper crust of society. As glamorous as hogh society life style sounds, it is difficult. The woman's husband hire an artist to paint a mural in their house. Affairs happen, secrets threaten to reveal themselves, and people come to find their true selves.

I loves bed the authors writing. As I said above, this is set in the twenties, the author does a very good job at depicting the period, in all ways: the setting, the dialog, exec the way she writes the story.

I really grew grew to feel like I knew these characters. Some I found to be very annoying, some I liked, some I despised.

I think think what I likes most is the authors writing. It is unique

I received a copy of this book from blogging for books.
