Untouchable Darkness - Rachel Van Dyken

Not special, not bad either. Well, that about sums it up.

Which Fantasy to Pick?

The Shadow Of What Was Lost - James Islington The Way of Shadows - Brent Weeks Gardens of the Moon - Steven Erikson Johannes Cabal the Necromancer - Jonathan L. Howard The Magicians - Lev Grossman The White Rabbit Chronicles: Alice in ZombielandThrough the Zombie GlassThe Queen of Zombie Hearts - Gena Showalter The Wheel of Time: Boxed Set #1 - Robert Jordan The Malazan Empire - Steven Erikson The Night Watch Collection: Books 1-3 of the Night Watch Series (Night Watch, Day Watch, and Twilight Watch) - Sergei Lukyanenko His Majesty's Dragon - Naomi Novik

I want to read a great fantasy series. I like it when there are lots of mythical characters/creatures. I like it where the main characters are not normal human type. I do like Tolkien, but I want something a bit grittier. I uses to read a lot of fantasy book, but lately have found myself zipping through para romance. I have recently not been enjoying them as I uses to though.

I have most of those above in complete, or near complete series. I also have Kings Dark Tower books, most of Brooks'Shanara books, a lot of Robin Hobb, and Sanderson.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't mind if it is something I don't have, I will get it.

I am so in the mood to hand verbally rip people apart today... but I am trying to be nice...

It's not working... and I tried really hard. I even bit the inside of my cheek til I almost bled.

My neighbor jumped down my throat today when she was visiting. I was getting my mail from the mailbox and out comes a flyer supporting democrats in some way, I haven't even read it yet. She's a republican, and not the informed type. Her opinion is made solely on abortion, prolife type of person. She is a welfare recipient, not knocking her for that. I myself when younger and after just having my first child was receiving medicaid and a small amount of food stamps.  I remember when growing up she refused to remove her daughter from LD classes in school because she would lose her free check she got from the government for her daughter being labels as developmentally disabled. She just doesn't get it. Everyday this women takes her daughter (36) to some hospital or another for a shot of narcotics and that bill is paid for by medicaid that her daughter fraudulently receives because she lies about her and her husband relationship status. No one in their entire house of 6 adults and two juveniles works, but they receive more income every month than my husband and make in a month. There is over $2000 a month in foodstamps alone in that house, and they still go to every food pantry at any chancemagailable. They even sign up at these pantries and get food for three separate families, not one household. I just don't understand why so many people sway their political views based on abortion alone without doing more research.

I kinda ripped her a new ass when she said that I think that because I work for a living that I think I should vote democratic and continue to allow people to kill their babies. I can not wrap me head around how someone who is 65 years old has such an uninformed strong opinion. Just to make this clear, I label myself democratic or republican, I do tend to be more democratic in my views, but I dont normally go tearing into people for their political views. I just have never seen a home have so many stupid people in one spot. Seriously though, these are the most ignorant people I have ever encountered on my life. That was mean, but I gotta vent, and it is truly hard to live next to them.

About a week ago the lady stopped over and was super offended by the cover of a book I had on the table. I admit it was a bit erotic, but she seriously said she would pray for my forgiveness at church on sunday for my indulging in such porn. Huh? Her daughter lives in the basement with her husband and their female lover and her child. Figure that one out. I walked outback one night and they were having a bonfire. I witnessed the older woman's daughters rubbing their naked beasts against each others while the one's husband paid them to do it with marijuana. I complained to her about this and her response was to cry and ignore until I stopped talking about it. There is seriously some weird sit over there. It is so irritating to me that she of all people acts as if my family and I are Satan spawn.

I am seriously having a difficult time not going outside and raising hell... after all being Satan spawn it should be pretty easy to do.

From the Cradle by Michelle Knight

Review:

From the Cradle (The Submissive Heart Book 3) - Michelle Knight

So, I finished this a while ago. Several weeks ago. I couldn't figure out where to start the review.

IN THE PREFACE:

So far, so good. Book 1, "The Companion," tackled the underlying dynamics of a BDSM relationship. Book 2, "The Reluctant Leader, " took on the censorship and legal issues and introduced the dominant side of the D/s dynamic. Now, book 3 takes you through another aspect of BDSM relationships that never crosses many people's minds.

It seems that whenever people talking about the subject of BDSM relationships, they somehow forget that the little woed, "relationship," is part of the sentence.

In the first book we were introduced to Mark and Susan (later known also as simply "L," the name given to her by her master). Mark had a scarred past and Susan needed someone to help guide her towards building a life where she would grow as a person she was com for table being. Together they entered in a BDSM relationship. The first book was focused on their budding love aND partnership . This book we get their "happily ever after," a look at what happens when their relationship buds into more than bargained for when they began their lives together.

I did not foresee any of the events in this book happening to Mark and L. I did enjoy the ride though. I never once thought of what it would be like for a couple who had a BDSM relationship to juggle the same curveballs that traditional couples experience.

After reading this I see so many similarities between what people consider to be normal relationships and that of a couple practising a BDSM lifestyle. When it comes to the topic of BDSM people's minds automatically think of violent, leather dressed men beating their females until they experience earth moving painful orgasms. That's not what you get with this book. What you get is a couple being a bit more honest with themselves about where they stand I their relationship and embracing their roles.

I completely understand why erotic BDSM literature is popular. In people's minds it is an adventure on the wildside. Those books give people wrong impressions, and sometimes bad ideas and stereotypes. I like that the author of this, Michelle Knight, wrote a realistic story. I have found this entire series to be very eye opening on the subject. This is very well written and obviously well researched and told from personal life experiences. Compared to the first two books this feels to be written with more emotion included in the story. Knight skills as a writer have really grown. This is not erotic fiction but is definitely intended for adults.

Harables: Short Stories 2

Review:

Harables: Short Stories 2 (Volume 2) - Haidji

Thw author of this collection of stories has a knack for making you really feel her words rather than just read them. Her writing is very artistic and unique. I love to read her writing when I want something thought provoking and emotional. She uses not only the words, but also the puncuation, placement, and spacing to make her statement. The first time I read something written by Haidji  I was reluctant to proceed much further than the first sentence,  but soon realized that the style and what I assumed were mistakes were actually intentional.  Very lovely.

In this we get 15 stories. If you read and enjoyed the first Harables you are sure to like this. Yes this is a book of short stories, but it will definitely appeal to those who enjoy poetic writing.
