WTF

Ten years ago My husband had a 2004 450r four wheeler stolen. I had bought it for him for our anniversary. It was $15000, not cheap. My husband present day works on not only cars, but also atvs, etc.Today someone brought him a 2004 450r to work on. It is my husbands bike. VIN numbers match, custom parts match. It is my husbands bike. What a predicament this puts us in. This guy is a friend of my husbands, and just bought it. If we press for the bike back, his friend gets a receiving stolen property charge, we get the bike back. Ugh... I think we are just going to let it go. I have paid this thing off years ago, my insurance wouldn't cover the property because of a stupid technicality.

Darkest Torment by Gena Showalter

Review:

The Darkest Torment (Lords of the Underworld) - Gena Showalter

The Lords of the Underworld are among my top ten favorites series of all time. I love the world that came from Showalter's amazing mind. She keeps my attention, and makes me hate the between books times.

This one is possibly my least favorite book. I feel the characters were not as developed as in the other books. This lacked the WOW factor for me. I want to read about swords, harpies, demons, angels... This was not what I expected. The writing seem subpar to what I have grown accustomed to from the previous books. Almost to the point where I wonder, ghostwriter? Hopefully the next will be better,

I'm on Patreon

Reblogged from: Lornographic Material

I've had friends, fans, and followers ask about helping me out monetarily in between book releases, or to help fund future books, so I've created a Patreon page. This isn't for donations. You get rewards at certain price points, which start at $1 and go up to $20. It's been awhile since my last major release and funds are tight. If you'd like to help, click on the link below.

Right now I'm working on getting my novel FAIRY LIGHTS hammered into shape and could use help with paying for final proofreading. To be completely transparent, I can afford this by myself, but not until the beginning of next year. If you'd like a new Lorn novel before next summer, this is how you can help make that possible.

You may share this post, if you're so inclined. Thanks for your past, present, and future support.

I am loving the new job. I had no idea that I would be "teaching" classes. I am in a room called academics on certain days. I am teaching them about money, grocery stores, rent, how to stay smelling good all day long (I really need to work on them with this), how to schedule doctors appointments, and so much more. I love this. What I notice though is that our materials we have to work with aren't numerous. We have nothing. We have no computers, no books, no anything. What we do have is board games, art supplies, etc. Think works for the other day programming site, not the one I work at. We need accounting books, actually we need a library, but there aren't any funds... they hired the perfect person for this. The library I helped add to the community center cost a whole $200 for shelving, the rest I figured out how to come up with. It was all through donations, library sales, etc.

Jacob - Jacquelyn Frank

“I was aware. I’ve always been aware. I’ve heard every growl of that beast you leash so tightly. I have felt his rough urgency in your elegant hands, his bite in the scrape of your teeth. Jacob, I’ve learned the depths at which that beast lives, and it no longer frightens me..."

I don't know why I like this section so much right now, I blame hormones.

Got off work and these cam today! Woo hoo! Very excited about the Snow White graphic novel arc. It is black and white, but will be colored when published d

The graphics are nice the way they are and I imagine they will be just amazing in color. The coloring book has seen beautiful pics.

Today was the first day of my new position at work. I love it! Ask me again in a week and my opinion may change, but today was great. I am back working with the clients in a "classroom" type setting. I had a blast. I don't admit this too often, but I like trying to figure out what makes them tick, what inspires them, what is important to them. To me it is a learning experience, each day is unique. At our day programming we spend a lot of time researching and experiment ing on the whats and whys.

For example: We have a client who is labelled  "biter." For years everyone saw that label and steered clear. This client was also an "aggressive eater." After we finally looked past the label we found out that these actions were displayed because when he was in an institution the female residents used to hide their food in their bust because whatever was on their plates after five minutes was thrown away. Can you imagine having to eat food that quick with an overbite, a set of seriously bucked out teeth, or no teeth at all? Or if you had limited control of the movements of your arm due to defect? This client had no where to stuff food, and no hopes of ingesting food quickly enough to get an adequate nutritional meal. He used to bite breasts hoping for food, and after starving for years began to just swallow his food whole in order to not starve. Now we give him a timer at meals and allow him to set the time he is allowed to eat. We hope to eliminate the timer eventually, but he was raised like that. To him the timer means eat. He won't eat without one. He hasn't had a behavioral slip up in over a year.

My new job is to basically help clients to overcome years and years of bad habits, figure out where those habits came from, and to completely think outside the box. I had a blast today.

I hate when people use labels to identify a client. A person can easily be lost to them.

We had a blast!

Went to see Secret Lives of Pets and the new Ghostbusters movie tonight at the drive in movie theater. We had so much fun. Ghostbusters is cute, so is Pets. My kids love it. I enjoy doing things like this with the family. I hope it builds memories for my kids that really stick with them for lives.

The Looking-Glass Portrait

Reblogged from: Linda Hilton

Kindle exclusive, so available for Kindle Unlimited members, at Amazon now.

When Thomasina Ryder inherits her grandmother's house, she expects to quickly arrange for the sale of the estate. She soon learns the disposal of her legacy will be a more complicated process than she expected. And nothing could complicate matters more than the return into Thomasina's life of a forbidden love from the past.

The further she delves into the secrets of that past, the more she is made aware of something sinister and hidden, never to be spoken of even in whispers. She begins to suspect this secret is connected to the silent forms she has seen moving in the old house, from the corner of her eye or in the distorted reflection of a mirror. Then, as her investigations bear fruit, the shadows in the mirrors become more threatening.

My Roller Coaster Life #1

As you all know by now, MY LIFE IS A ROLLER COASTER! I am now going to be adding the tag MY ROLLER COASTER LIFE at the bottom of these posts.

Today I pull up from working an unscheduled shift and see the water company in front of my house. WTF! When we bought the house my father owed a large past due amount. Over $300. In the town I live the water bill goes with the land, sort of. Me and him agreed to me paying my bill and him making payments on the past due, which he never did and I ended up making those payments which he will, or he will die, pay me back when he receives his biyearly estate payment from my grandfather's estate. He gets it next month. It is a substantial amount, over $12000 a year for the next five years. Apparently when he switched his address the late payment slips started going to his house. This month they sent him something stating that that bill needed paid off in full by the 19th of this month, yesterday. He didn't tell me. All I would have had to do is call down to the office and extend the payment arrangement. NOPE, he is an idiot. I just had to shell out the entire bill.

I am a bit strapped financially until my final estate payment come next month. I have assets, but nothing I will not take a beating on if I touch. I want a retirement and am making sure I have a large one. If I touch any of it now I will stand to lose A LOT of money.

My car broke down on the way home from the water department. Not a huge, huge problem, we have two. It will be a pain, but it will be okay. My hubby is a mechanic, so he will fix it, but parts will still cost. I am thankful that I don't have to pay what the rest of you have to pay just for a brake job. That being said, I laugh at the fact that my husband is a mechanic and my car is always in need of work. He just really hates working on his own vehicles. I had a Mustang convertible sporting two beautiful hammer claw holes in the rear fender from when my e brake decided to get stuck in the on position, at least I think that is what was wrong with at the time he fuckered my baby up. I loved that car, but three kids do not fit beautifully into the back. I would have to put one in trunk, that really doesn't sound too bad right now though.

Back to the Dad thing. I am going to have to do something I have been putting off. It is not easy to take your own father to court, but if he can't even keep his word about doing the little bit I ask of him we are going to have to let the courts handle the whle situation. He is constantly trying to skip out on the tiny $200 I ask from him for child support each month, especially considering I found out is is receiving quite a bit more than that for claiming her through social security.

Back to the hubby. Things have been bad with his employment too. His business partner has taken up smoking crystal meth. BAD! When we moved we gave up the garage we had. The business was moved back to the partners garage on the other side of town. My husband has since removed his tools from the property and he is moving it to a new site. This isn't horrible on business because most of his customers bring him either atvs, off road buggies, jet skis, etc. He has a good reputation, his customers are loyal and follow him. It is just a lot of work.

The Mating (Book 1 Law of Lychans) Freebie Find Win Number Two

Review:

The Mating - Nicky Charles

I read this a couple of years back and remembered it being good enough for me to buy the rest of the of the books in the series. This time around it was still good.

In this we are introduced to quite a few characters. They are members of a wolf shifter pack. Actually two packs. There is an arranged mating between the alpha of one pack and the daughter of the an alpha of another pack. Though neither of these wolves are enthused byt the situation, they go through with the plan and mate so that their packs will be best benefitted by an alliance.

I love both of the main characters in this. The author is very good at character development, and gives us an array of characters. There is one character I really hate, but I am supposed to hate her, she's very self centered, conniving, and does a good job at making sure she has the wool pulled over everyone's eyes about what she truly is like. The author not only tells us a love story, but also one of mystery, of forgetting and moving on from a difficult past, and also of loyalty and deceit.

This is the second win book I have found on my search of the minefield of free books on Amazon.

Ivy's Tangle (book 1)- first freebie find

Review:

This is very well written. It is not too often you find a story with this much character development on this age group. I love the setting, a huge estate bordering a mystic, off limits forest. As the characters expired there setting it really came to life in my minds, this was my favorite thing about this book.

The story follows a fourteen year old boy as he moves in with his grandmother. This boy is used to being moved around, his parents never stay in one place for long, and to top it off he has been bounced back in forth between the two of them almost all his life. We also have a girl named Ivy who is not like ordinary girls her age in any way. She is smaller than most, the way she speaks is off and comes across as snobish, and she has no knowledge of modern day technology (never seen a movie, etc.). We get to read as a boy learns to handle a sword, a girl excells in gardening through very peculiar actions, and the mystery of the forest starts to reveal itself.

At th he end of this story I am still left without knowing too much of where this is going. Normally that would bug the check out of me, but not with this story. All this does is make me want to move forward til the next book. This is fantasy, and I expect to see much more fanatical elements take in the next book, but not here. The author just sort of teases the reader with little oddities here and there.

This book, at the time of this review, is free on Amazon. This is my first win in my hunt to find the good freebie books on Amazon. Book two will be added to my wish list and read after I have finished my freebie hunt.

Many Lives of Avery Snow

The Many Lives of Avery Snow - Christy Sloat

Dnf at 10%. The wording could use some changing. Some punctuation mistakes. Things usually taken care of when the book is polished up for publication. Needs tweaking.

No Happily Ever After

No Happily Ever After - Amanda Gatton

This is okay. Feels geared towards middle grade, maybe younger even. It is supposed to young adult. I get that young adult will have simpler wording, simpler themes. This us just so below what a young adult could comprehend.

The Angel & the Brown-Eyed Boy - Sandy Nathan

Made it to 15%. It's not horrible, but not the wow I am looking for.

The writing, so far, has moments of greatness, other times it is lackluster. The plot is interesting. An angel comes to Earth. She is not familiar with our ways, safety, or advanced language. She quickly sets herself up to be exploited when she give a horse betting man the winning outcomes in exchange for kindness and direction. This is where I stopped.

Ugh...

My brother in law is a bit self centered. This morning he picked up the little sis to take him shopping. I don't know why he has such a bad image of me, even in my addiction, I was never a bad mother, or a thief. I always had money to back my addiction up. We lived a bit broke for a few years because I didn't trust myself at that point to have a lot of money, I worked very part time hours. After I had a bit of time being sober I went back. I have never done anything to make him not like me.

I work night hours. Everyone else's days are my nights, for now. When he picked her up on went out in my comfiest pjs to let him know that if the car wasn't home I would leave the door open for her and soon return. Well, he ran his mouth about me to her about how slobby u was.  I was sleeping! I make sure I am neatly dressed before I go out in public. I sure as heck don't go galavanting around all the time in my sleep clothes. I had just washed my hair, it was damp. He in turn told my sister that my hair was so greasy it looked wet. It was wet. I am raising the girl with very little financial help. She is expensive. She is a picky eater, and her body has changed since she has been eating healthier since living with me.I  slowly buying her clothes, but if I do so for one, I have to do for all of the kids.

She was uncomfortable with the way he talked about me and told my daughter what had happened. My daughter told me. My hubby flipped. In turn my middle sis (32) is blaming the whole situation on the 14 year old sister.

Freebie horror show in hopes of finding a gem...

I am challenging myself to read freebies from Amazon, ITunes, Kobo, etc. Not Netgalley, or similar. I am talking the minefield of free books. The ones where you wanna rip your eyeballs out, most the time. Those aren't the ones o seek though. I am in search of ones that are actually good.

If, and when, I find one that is blah, I will simply dnf it with a simple explanation and example (if an example is sufficient). I  out to see if there really is a reason to keep getting all the freebie newsletter emails, and to clear out my kindle shelf. Wish luck.

EXCERPT

“The referee has called a stop to this match at two-minutes and forty-nine seconds into the second round,” the announcer begins. “The winner by TKO, Finn ‘The Fury’ O’Brien.”

The crowd screams and pumps their fists in the air when my hand is raised. I take the few seconds I need to thank my sponsors, my camp, and my brother, because that’s what I’m supposed to do despite the fog clouding my senses. I wish that disconnect had something to do with all the hits I took, but deep down I know that it doesn’t.

I’m back in the locker room before I know it getting stitched up, too many people talking at once. God, I barely hear their questions or my responses. But they’re there and somehow I make it through.

“I’m worried about you, Finnie,” Kill says when everyone piles out.

“Don’t. I’m not drinking tonight. I’m headed home,” I assure him.

“That’s not what I mean,” he says. He’s sitting in a fold out chair, his arms resting against his muscular legs. “I think you need to talk to someone.”

I stretch out my arms. By now they’re so tight, they pull against the bones. “I am. I’m talking to you.”

I don’t have to see him to know he’s shaking his head, or that he’s looking sad, disappointed, and maybe something else, too. “I’m not who you should be speaking to,” he says. “Not for what’s going on in your head.”

“You’re enough,” I say, even though I know it’s no longer true.

“Finn,” he begins.

I don’t wait for him to finish, leaving the changing area and heading toward the showers. “Go find Sofia and Wren,” I call over my shoulder as I strip out my shirt. “See if they’re up for some dinner.”

I don’t remember peeling the rest of my clothes off. That numbness I’ve been feeling too much lately claiming me like a mist until it fully engulfs me. Fuck. It’s like I’ve stopped living even though for the most part I think I’m still alive.

Ohio's Haunted Crimes

Review:

Ohio's Haunted Crimes: An Exploration of Ten Haunted Crime Scenes - Kat Klockow

I chose this title because I live in Ohio. I have a friend who is really into the paranormal. She researches everything, goes ghost hunting, and has even hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars on ghost detecting equipment. She swears she saw Big Foot in her backyard once.

This is very well put together. I am impressed with the thorough research that had to go into this book. I have visited a few, quite a few, of the places mentioned. There was a good job done on catching the atmosphere and feel to the places.

This is a must have for libraries, and those with an itch for paranormal who reside/have an interest in Ohio specifically. I will most definitely be purchasin a hard copy for both my friend and myself.

The Dark Army

Review:

Dark Army, The (New Darkness) - Joseph Delaney

This had no story of it's own. There was no main problem and solution to focus on. This is more of a continued story, this is the second book in this series. I usually have a hard time with books like that, unless the next book is already published.  am a very impatient person when it comes to reading. I worry that I will forget the happenings of one book before the next comes out, which has happened to me.

The writing is nice, the stays within the PG-13 category keeping this consistent with the young adult genre label it carries. This has a dark feel to it, which I am a fan of in my reading, it is something I commonly look for when searching for a read. The pacing does feel a bit off, but I don't think it destroys the book, and there a reasons behind most of it. All in all I hesitate to give this a great rating, but by no means does it deserve a bad rating. If the story would have continued maybe just a bit further into the adventures it may have been a all together different experience for me. I was left just feeling like there should have been more to read.

Book via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Tiger

Tiger - Laurann Dohner

Again, there was no story development other than the romantic side. Too much focus on the couple. Seems like to much focus on sex, and you won't hear me say that too often. I wouldn't call this porn, but it seems to be the main focus. I am maybe going to try the next book to see what happens, but maybe not either. I am open for suggestions on series similar, but better.

Wrath

Review:

Wrath - Laurann Dohner

These are getting very repetitive. It goes: boy meets girl, sex, girl gets in some sort of trouble because of relationship with guy, guy feels guilty, guy backs away from relationship, make up nsex, girl again finds trouble, guy saves girl, they mate, sometimes baby. I feel as if the author is not developing any story line anymore. The world isn't evolving, just sex and mating. At least in the first few books there was more than just the sex and angst. The only reason I continue is in hopes of a New Species female finding a mate and getting a story.
