Requiem for the Wolf

Review:

This has a dark feel to it. There are some pretty graphic scenes, but it's not nasty gruesome. I like that in a book, a lot.

The gadhar attacked again, slashing the loose skin on the wolf's neck with dagger-sharp claws. Bragg lunged, his knife finding flesh this time scoring a short line of red along the wolf's haunch.

This is pretty unique from other books that sit in the same genre/type, also good. The writing is good, very heavy on content. By that I mean there is a lot packed in and it is very detailed. My favorite scene was in the beginning where the main character is at a market of sorts and he meets up with a bad guy Lupe who he had been tracking. 

The writing is good. There are no plot holes that stood out. Not many, if any, typos. I would have liked to see more descriptive summary concerning the setting. They were described, and I got a good idea, but it seemed to lack the beautiful wording that a lot of fantasy books have.

All in all a good read. I hope to see more from this author and really am impressed. I didn't know own what to expect as I have never read anything from her prior to this. I look forward to reading her work as she builder her skills as a writer.

Open When...

Review:

I like this, and I do feel it inspires people the way it is supposed, but it feels too simplistic. I have a real problem with the recommended price of U.S. $14.99/Can. $19.99. No way is this worth that. It reminds me of something you could grab at a dollar store.

 

The idea is to open the envelope shaped pages to reveal an inspirational "letter." It contains only 12 of these. I seriously went through the entire thing in less than five minutes. The design would be an awesome chilren book. My son was very amused by this thjng, but the content isn't very child appropriate. It contains the word "idiot" and "pissed off."

 

I will say that this did inspire me to copy the design and use it as an art project in class today.

 

This is definitely a card shop book.

Geometric Adult Coloring Journal

Review:

This is pretty neat. It is more then just a coloring book. Every other page is an activity of some sorts. The are dot to dot, color by number, traditional coloring, design your own, and more. On the iposite page is a prompt about writing thoughtful list, instructions on how to complete the opposite. There are four sections for the seasons. It is a bit smaller than a traditional coloring book. I like that it has an elastic band for holding it together, these help to stop books such as this from flapping open and getting crinkles.

I do feel it important to point out that some of these designs are very detailed and I belive some people with optical issues would find the content hard to complete.

This would make a great gift.

Sterling by Danika Dark

I really liked Dark's Seven series. I am a couple books behind, but plan on remedying that soon. This book came in a bundle with the next three installments for just over five bucks, decent price, and so far it is worth the purchase.

 

This series is centered around a newly made female mage. There is a love triangle, or rather a love square going on. There is some rather graphic torture scenes that some may find offensive, but these parts are essential to the story and really made me despise the bad guys and root for the good. The characters are really well written, I feel this is where Dark is the strongest. She has a knack for really keeping a character consistent but complex at the same time. 

 

I will continue with this series soon.

Shadow's Seduction

Review:

Shadows Claim, the first Dacians novel is my favorite in this series. I love the ability that these Dacians have. Mostly being able to turn to mist.

 

I love Cole's writing and the worlds she writes about. I was a bit worried after Sweet Ruin that this series was taking a turn I didn't like. I do wish we had seen more of our favorite characters, but this is only a novella.

 

A lot of people have issues with this being a m/m. I admit I really wanted a sweet Dacian vampire princess for Cas, but a prince worked. The are good together and the prince really tamed the demon. 

 

As far as story progression goes, this is a cliffhanger! Uhg... really? At least the next comes out soon.

 

In a nutshell: not my fave but not horrid.

My Thoughts:

 

This wasn't a perfect read, but it was fun.

 

Most people put this in the young adult catagory. I feel most middle graders would handle this well.

 

To me it is obvious that this author was greatly infuenced by a lit of other popular novels of this genre, but that does not by any means make this any less of great read. I think this is great blend of everything previous done right, but with an original flare all its own. I found the way the demons worked to be especially interesting.

 

I love that this started on watt pad and really turned Inot something great that got the recognition it deserved.

Oui Oui, Gigi! (free)

Review:

Ages 4-8

 

This is free as of the time of this review. If you have a child in the recommended age group I really think they would enjoy this.

 

Not only is this a cute story of two dogs lost in Paris, but the author was very creative about making this educational. Children will learn French words with their pronunciation and meaning, about famous and important buildings around the city, and more. The illustrations are very nice. I think an example is the best way to describe them:

Yay!

I sent my Samsung tab s tablet to the by mail doc. I never expected that it was fixable, damn thing screwed up horribly and pretty much told me to eff-off! Got it back, it works perfectly. The only thing I notice is that when the frame work went back together didn't line up on one side. Taking it to a local repair shop n they are going to slide it back for free! Yay!

 

Thing is I now have three tablets... no four. Galaxy tab a, tab s, tab 4, and kindle. Huh, I feel like a tablet ho!

Reading progress update: I've read 52 out of 368 pages.

Why the heck did it take me so long to read this? I really am enjoying this. Big thanks to Bookstooge for the idea on how to plan readinget! If not for that post I a, not sure I would ever have read this.

 

On the side note. I counted how many books I have purchased through Amazon, Google Play, I books, Feedbooks, and other sites that I have not read... too large. Over 150. I don't even want to think about how much money it is that I spent on those books that I will never eventually read... shit, I thought about it. I will post my list soon, in sections. I am organizing my list into series right now.

This book has a really great opening get that really grabbed my attention. Twenty some years before this book is set the world we know colides with a magical realm. The prologue tells what happens when it first began. Almost made me a bit teary.

Freebie Finding: Sacrificed to the Dragon

Review:

This one is hard to rate. There is nothing wrong with it. There aren't any, or many (nothing stood out) typos or mistakes, it's a decent story, it's in a genre I love, DRAGONS, good length, etc. It just wasn't wonderful. I feel the writing was simplistic. This author could totally rock a young adult, middle grade, and possibly even new adult novel. I feel like some simple word substitution would make a humongous difference.

 

In a nut she'll this is anot note resting story written with proper grammar, but could use some tweaking. I did enjoy this.
